The Bridge Easton is situated on a beautiful site in the village of Easton. The purpose-built school is on schedule to be opened in January 2023. The school will have modern spacious classrooms, specialist therapy rooms, extensive outdoor space including a Multi Surface Sports Area and individual outside spaces for all primary classes.  

The Bridge Easton is a special school for children with complex needs and/or autism based in Easton, Norfolk. Our provision will offer an education to children from reception through to Year 13. Children attending the school will all have an Education, Health and Care Plan identifying their needs. As a school we will work with children, their families and other professionals within education, health and care to support a successful journey through school, with the shared aim for an appropriate transition into a fulfilling and active adult life.

The Bridge Easton will provide  a truly nurturing environment, our priority is to meet the individual needs of each child, supporting children to be kind, confident and independent young people. We will offer our children and young people a bespoke curriculum and package of care, minimising their barriers to learning and optimising opportunities for success and progress.

We aim to create a school environment in which our young people and their families are central to our school community, our ethos keeps pupil wellbeing at the heart of all we do. We will work in partnership with our wider community to offer additional learning experiences enhancing the learning in the classroom, broadening opportunities for our young people.

Our Approach

The Bridge Easton is a special school for pupils aged 4-19 that is welcoming to all and where everyone can be themselves; children always come first.  We want our young people to be in a position to make choices so that they can affect and embrace change in their own lives.  We overcome barriers, we make children feel safe and we create space for them to take risks so that they can flourish.

Our primary curriculum is focused on providing a wide range of relevant experience and knowledge which is cross-referenced to the national curriculum. The curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of the children in each class, teaching styles and activities are modified accordingly.

We will open in January with around 60 pupils with an agreed steady growth plan for the following five years. We will run small classes to ensure every child receives specialist attention. All classes are led by a teacher with the support of additional teaching assistants in the classroom.  This offers a good pupil-teacher ratio.

We believe that staff and pupils should all have fun every day. We want the children to enjoy coming to school, so we will ensure that there is a great balance of classroom-based learning and movement-based activities to keep school engaging. The school day will be structured to ensure pupils have plenty of movement breaks and short learning sessions, including time in our sensory integration rooms.

Everything we do promotes communication. We provide our pupils with plenty of opportunities for interaction and engagement with adults and peers, ensuring that they develop their confidence and communication skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Our Curriculum

Our initial curriculum at The Bridge Easton will we modelled on the curriculum offered by The Bridge London. This is broad, balanced and coordinated curriculum. At The Bridge Easton, we regard all of our pupils as capable of making great progress over their school lives. We will have very high expectations of them and we passionately believe that they will all be capable of taking control of their own learning.

We aim for our pupils to be competent communicators through whichever method best suits them, to fulfil their potential in terms of being independent, and we want to provide relevant breadth and balance of learning opportunities so that being in a special school is a benefit to their life.

We aim to provide relevant experiences alongside mainstream peers, where appropriate, and to enable pupils to value themselves as part of society. All children should leave the school with an awareness of themselves and their capabilities. Time in school must be positive, stimulating and a fun learning environment where self-esteem and confidence can develop alongside practical skills and the ability to use and apply their knowledge where possible.

To provide a common framework for the curriculum, The Bridge London have revisited the curriculum offer ensuring it is diverse, challenging and meeting the needs of our young people.

The curriculum is a framework for the educational offer made to children and young people attending the school, however this is a flexible framework.  We look to address each and every pupil’s needs.
